Urbanism and information are linked in capitalist and anti-capitalist societies, they organize the silence.
Raoul Vaneigem

The Zoning Project is a multimedia project. Its subject is this suburban zone of industrial, commercial or residential development, called in french and dutch "zoning". It is also about the actual action of land-use planning, and the definition, attribution, and imposition on a portion of territory of one and only one function, selected between the following 3 functions: production, commerce and habitation. This definition of space and of the activities that can or cannot take place in it, and the political and social consequences of this definition will be the guiding rule of the project.

The translation of the project into an artistic project includes texts, webpages, music and video, all of them floating between objective documentary and artistic filter. It is supposed to evolve into a travelling performance containing as much documentation as possible. The central point will be the work and subsequent live performances of the project initiators: the musicians TMRX (arnaud jacobs), johan vandermaelen, and Martiensgohome (benoit deuxant and roland wouters). Their musical work is based on a minute listening of their environement and, much as this project is floating between documentary and fiction, is drifting somewhere between pure phonography and electronic music. The sounds of the "zoning" will be captured and presented along with its filtered version, distorted through the lenses of fiction,
hazard and intent.

as the project develops, more info will be posted on this site...
